Today, that term already falls short: the conversation has moved toward predictive medicine, toward virtual patient models — such as the digital twin — and toward artificial intelligence applied to diagnosis. This is not just a technological change. It is a different way of understanding healthcare.
In this context, ARSOFT will be present at Salamanca Tech, one of the most important innovation events in our country’s technological and university ecosystem. And it will play a leading role: Santiago González, CEO of ARSOFT, will participate on April 16 in the expert panel titled From Telemedicine to the Personal Digital Twin.
What exactly is a Digital Twin in medicine?
The concept of a digital twin comes from the industrial world. In a factory, a digital twin is a virtual replica of a machine or a process that allows its behavior to be simulated without touching the original. In medicine, the idea is the same but applied to something much more complex: the patient.
A medical digital twin integrates clinical images, physiological data, medical history, genetic information, response to previous treatments… and with all this, it builds a model that can be used to simulate, predict, and plan before acting. It represents the shift from reactive medicine — acting when the problem has already appeared — to predictive medicine: anticipating, preparing, personalizing.
The parallel with industry is useful here. Before industrial simulation existed, people waited for failures in order to fix them. Today, no one would imagine managing a plant without tools that allow you to foresee what is going to happen. Medicine is moving toward that same model, although with its own timelines and complexities.

What makes the April 16 panel interesting is not only the topic, but also who will be discussing it. Alongside Santiago González will be Jesús María Hernández Rivas, Professor of Medicine at the University of Salamanca and hematologist at the University Hospital, and Carlos Escobar, cardiologist at Hospital Universitario La Paz and scientific coordinator of the DTx digital therapeutics consortium.

They aim to give them more context, greater analytical capability, and more confidence when making decisions. In short, to help them work with greater precision and a smaller margin of error.

There is something significant about these kinds of conversations taking place at an event like Salamanca Tech. The city combines a university, a hospital, and a technological business ecosystem in a way that is not very common.
