The future of medical imaging visualization and study

3Dprintingdesing published in its magazine an article on the NextMed project as the future of medical imaging and visualization.
What is NextMed?

NextMed is a platform for automatic segmentation and visualization of medical images with augmented reality and virtual reality. This system allows medical professionals to upload DICOM files resulting from Computed Tomography (CT) scans.

Once the file is received, the platform generates a 3D model of the structure for its study through the system’s tools, we can move the 3D model, take notes, make cuts in the structure, visualize the patient’s file, etc.

All this in an interactive environment and with a simple handling developed by ARSOFT.

Where is NextMed headed?

Currently NextMed is in an initial phase in terms of the scope it has, in the 5 years of research and development with the University of Salamanca has managed to generate a platform for study and visualization for surgical planning and diagnosis, but continues to develop towards surgical guidance in mixed reality for full implementation in hospitals.

NextMed is already being used and tested in hospitals as virtual and mixed reality technologies will be relevant in the medical field. The project is currently seeking funding to convert its results into a commercial solution.
